Here are 3 easy tips to help you teach it.
First, and most importantly, spend the time with them to master their times tables.
Make sure they are at the point where they can do them quickly and without thinking.
You want them to free up the mental space so they can work on the other steps in long division.
Repetition and speed are key here.

Second, get them used to the format that is used to lay out a long division problem.
Knowing where each number goes is key to start.
Practice on the really simple mental division problems like 12 divided by 6, but with the long division format.
Practice Division Format ->Third, work through the process for long division one step at a time.
Start with the final subtraction for the remainder and work upwards.
Stay on a number as long as it takes for them to understand its role in the overall problem.
