First we will want to organize the multiplication in columns as it will be a bit easier to keep track of

We'll start with the ones digit and perform the multiplication. 426 times 1 is just 426, so let's write that in the first row under the line.

Now, we can work on the 3 digit, which represents 30. Let's multiply 426 by 3 to get 1278, and write it in starting in the tens place.

When we add a zero, making it 12780, we've made it into 30 times 426

Now we just add the 1 times 426, and the 30 times 426, to get our product, which is 31 times 426
